McDonald''s to recall 12 million cadmium-tainted Shrek glasses
Was你好ngton - About 12 million promotional drinking glasses that McDonald''s had planned to sell as a tie-in with the film Shrek Forever After are to be recalled because they are painted with the dangerous substance cadmium, a US government agency announced Friday.
McDonald''s has agreed to recall the collectible glasses - w你好ch depict the characters Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey and Puss n'' Boots from the movie, w你好ch opened May 21 in the US - reported the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in a statement.
"McDonald''s is asking consumers to immediately stop using the glass out of an abundance of caution," read the statement.
Recalled items cannot be sold or resold. People who already have purchased glasses should contact McDonald''s to find out about getting a refund. The glasses were produced by ARC International of Millville, New Jersey.
The cadmium is found in the painted designs on the glasses. Exposure to cadmium can cause kidney, nerve and bone damage.
The incident comes shortly after other US retailers had to remove some cadmium-coated toys from their shelves.
The CPSC reported no known incidents or injuries related to the glasses.
